In-Gi Min, the 12th Artistic Director of the National Chorus of Korea, completed his undergraduate studies at Yonsei University in Korea where he graduated with distinction in an honors, majored in music composition. He received a master’s degree in conducting from New York University and subsequently obtained a doctorate in choral conducting at the University of Southern California, the top ranked choral conducting training program in the United States, where he studied conducting with Dr. William Dehning and choral music methods and pedagogy with Dr. David Wilson. During his residence at USC, he won numerous scholarships and awards and furthermore pursed advanced conducting studies with Paul Salamunovich, Helmuth Rilling and he founded and served as a music director of the Gloria Musica Chorale in United States and performed as a guest conductor at numerous music festivals.
Dr. Min’s work from the podium has been recognized internationally through numerous prizes, grants, and guest conducting invitations. To date, he has conducted as a guest conductors, more than a dozen professional choirs and orchestras in several countries such as Seoul Metropolitan Chorus, Busan Metropolitan Chorus, Daegu City Choir, Gwangju Civic Chorale, Bucheon Philharmonic Chorus, Wonju Civic Chorale, Goyang Civic Chorale, Cheongju Civic Chorale, Ansan City Choir, Seoul Philharmonic Orchesta, Suwon Philharmonic Orchestra, Korea Symphony Orchestra, Prague Symphony in Czech Republic and Kiev Radio Symphony in Ukraina etc. He has been highly acclaimed as “an excellent conductor with accurate interpretation and emotion.”
Prof. Min formerly served as a Professor of Music & Director of Choral Activities in the College of Music at Dankook University in Seoul and at the Music Department of Honam Theological University & Seminary and its graduate school, teaching choral conducting for last 18 years.
Dr. Min also has worked world-widely as a leading consultant, clinician, adjudicator, lecturer and a choral conductor at choral music seminars organized by universities and in choral organizations, including at Yale University, Westminster Choir College, George Mason University, Colorado State University, University of Wisconsin in the U.S., Parma Conservatorio di Musica Arrigo Boito in Italy, Staatuche Hochshule fűr Musik Kőln in Germany, HEMU Lausanne Conservatory in Switzerland as well as the Korean Church Music Association, the Korean Federation of Choral Music, and the Korean Choral Directors Association.
Prior to joining the Nat’l Chorus of Korea as the Artistic Director, he served as an Artistic director and principal conductor of the Gangneung Civic Chorale and the Ulsan Metropolitan Professional Chorus, the professional ensemble whose mandate is to provide experienced and recognized as the Korea’s outstanding professional ensembles motivated choral singers with direct exposure to the world of professional music making as well as to make it a world-class choir producing the best in choral music and also served as an Artistic director and principal conductor of the Suwon Civic Chorale one of the top professional choruses in Korea for last 14 years. Dr. Min is well known for his ability to connect with audiences and for his interest in building bridges between the professional music world, music training institutions, and the wider community. His activities with these chorales now range from choral/orchestral masterworks, jazz choral music, new music and the various kinds of choral music.
Since assuming office as the 12th Artistic Director of the National Chorus of Korea in January 2024, he is expected to fulfill his mission as a conductor who delivers inspiration, comfort, and hope to the people, while striving to promote Korea’s beautiful choral music to the world and practice the central role of Korean top professional chorus through the National Chorus of Korea.
